Important Notes
  • All events will be held virtually until further notice
  • All training topics are subject to change; topics will be added as needed
  • Unless otherwise specified, apprentice trainings will be from 2pm – 4pm and employer trainings will be from 10:30am – 12:30pm.
Winter/Spring 2022

Wednesday, February 2 – Interview Support Training Cohort 4

Potential Topics

  • Understand how to modify apprentice interviews by choosing group interviews or discussion prompts
  • Understand and avoid bias by seeking indicators of potential like evidence of effort and enthusiasm
  • Codify assessment by using rubrics for communication and enthusiasm

Wednesday, February 9 – Supervisor Project Planning Aligned to Competencies Cohort 1  

Potential Topics

  • Create rigorous, competency-aligned projects with third-year apprentices
    Practice identifying key competencies for apprentices to develop and how to incorporate them into work-place projects

Wednesday, February 23 – Supervisor/Coach Training Cohort 3

Potential Topics

  • Practice giving feedback
  • Support professional writing

Wednesday, March 23 – Supervisor/Coach Training Cohorts 1 & 2 (Final training for this cohort)

  • Celebrate and reflect together
  • Close out the apprenticeship/keep in touch
  • Administer final assessments and share feedback

Wednesday, April 6 – Apprentice Training Cohort 2

Potential Topics

  • Visit Amazon in-person (if possible) and hear from Amazon apprentices
  • Celebrate wins on the job and at school
  • Review next steps for year 3 planning
  • Gain skills to foster a positive relationship with your supervisor

Wednesday, May 18 – Supervisor/Coach Training Cohort 3

  • Celebrate and reflect together
  • Close out the apprenticeship/keep in touch
  • Administer final assessments and share feedback
Summer 2022

Wednesday, July 13 (10am – 1pm) – Supervisor/Coach Training Cohort 4

Potential Topics

  • Share CWNY overview
  • Understand roles and responsibilities and positive youth development
  • Reflect on competencies and Career Development Institute
  • Examine DEI: Race and Equity

Tuesday, July 5 – Friday, August 26 (1 – 4pm) – Career Development Institute Phase I Cohort 4

  • Eight-week, rigorous, feedback-rich initial training for new apprentices
  • Led by expert CWNY facilitators, project-based, and stipended
  • Topics covered: workplace basic skills, Microsoft Office 101, career pathway exploration, oral and written professional communication, financial literacy, etc.
Fall/Winter 2022

Wednesday, September 28 – Apprentice Training Cohort 2

  • Practice an advanced time management technique
  • Discuss balancing apprenticeship and college
  • Explore career pathways in your field
  • Prepare for success in year 3 and beyond in a goal setting workshop

Wednesday, October 6 – Supervisor/Coach Training Cohort 4

  • Practice using CWNY learning management system
  • Walk-through 90-day plan and project protocol
  • Overview Registered Apprenticeship Program (RAP)

Wednesday, October 19 – Supervisor/Coach Training Cohort 3

  • Explore resources for year two

  • Review menu of resources

Wednesday, October 26 – Apprentice Training Cohort 3

  • Practice professional communication in a networking improv activity
